As per the folklore Shri Ram had killed a demon called Roor on the banks of river Ghod during his Lanka expedition. As the head of the demon had fallen at this place was known as sirrur which in present is called Shirur. A huge temple of Lord Shiva is located was founded by Shri Ram.
