The word Chhedu is the distorted version of Setu and the Tamil word Karate means corner. The foundation stone of the bridge was laid at this place. We can see the remains of Setu, if we go deep inside the sea till 2 kms deep. These remains could be the pillars of Setu as they are 10-11 feet deep in the sea.
